GHOST OF A DREAM THIS IS IT
The Cynthia Corbett Gallery presents at VOLTA NY 2010 Ghost of a Dream this is it.

The work of artist duo Ghost of a Dream is a rare combination of absolute uniqueness, superb technical skill and yet has the feel of nostalgia mixed with cutting edge. The work invites the viewer to explore, interpret and "dream." As one is confronted with the art installations of Ghost of a Dream, it is like walking through a homage to the Old Masters and a simpler way of living mixed in Technicolor. The dedication of these two remarkable artists is herculean – they live and breathe their work – and each piece they create has the stamp of craftsmanship of the highest order. However, they could only be of the 21st century as their contemporary tools, medium and concept reflect our societies' obsession with the creation or acquisition of wealth through chance, i.e. the situation of the lottery. What is also so clever is that they create "paintings" that have been saved for museums through the use of lottery money and in the most recent exhibition of their work at London's prestigious "Exhibitionism – the Art of Display," Courtauld Institute of Art, Somerset House – the work hangs in a gallery which celebrates the Old Masters. Ghost of a Dream were the joint winners of the 2009 Inaugural Young Masters Art Prize, held in London and sponsored by AXA Insurance (UK). They have set a benchmark for this prize that will be a very hard act to follow. As their international reputation grows it will be exciting to watch this dynamic duo influence a whole new generation of contemporary artists. Personally, I can barely contain my excitement for what I know will be some of the most unique and outstanding work to be produced by these remarkable contemporary artists in the future. ~Cynthia Corbett, Director, The Cynthia Corbett Gallery, London & Founder of the Young Masters Art Prize.

"Presently we are making work based on the common desires and ramifications of fast, easy money. Our projects revolve around the lottery system, which happens to be the world's largest get rich quick scheme. As people scratch, choose numbers and place bets, we think about what they would do with "all that cash". These pieces are built with the spent dreams of losing lotto tickets. The "scratchers" are collected from gas stations, grocery stores, bars, and streets around the world. The scratch tickets represent real dreams that usually disappear just as quickly as they came". ~Ghost of a Dream
