Interview with Esther Nash
about her new art book, "Fashionista"
A fourth generation New Yorker, I grew up in an environment
saturated with art and culture. Even as a child, I was a fashionista-all year
round style. My inspiration for "Fashionista" came from my love of style,
fashion, mood, color and New York City.
Fortunately, I have a mother who is naturally talented, creative,
artistic, highly intelligent (practically genius), a visionary, a pioneer, who
always encouraged me to reach for the stars and beyond. My mother is
graceful, elegant, royal, fresh, spontaneous, adventurous and unique.
Even though she worked many hours everyday she always found
time to spend with me even if it meant no sleep for her. She always
impressed upon me the importance of education, work, accomplishment
and financial independence. I have a sister who has been helpful and
supportive of my aspirations. I consider myself very lucky.
Many can copy but few can create. I feel blessed that I was born
with natural talent, a gift from God. I feel blessed that I was provided
opportunities to develop and showcase my talent.
My Mother raised my sister and I to always know the difference
between quality not quantity. unfortunately, thieves also know the
difference. My mother is creative and always very generous with
everything. One winter, our mother gifted us a beautiful antique snow
sleigh. Before we had an opportunity to sleigh - it was stolen from our
home. I was very upset about this. I decided to replace it by building a
sleigh in my after-school carpentry class. My teacher helped me one on
one.
My Mother made me realize it was not my fault. They liked what I had
and they stole it. My roller skates, bikes, and coats were also stolen. I tried
to make the best of the situation. I was able to create and make more. All
was not lost and forgotten. I could design, create and build it from scratch.
Nothing is out of reach if you have a little imagination.
All these experiences molded me into the person I am today. The
truth is that when you have something really nice everyone else wants it. I
did not give up on having beautiful things of value. I decided to build them
or create them myself. In a way it is all a compliment-meaning i have good
taste. I have had many experiences thus far and that is why I am the way I
am today. I grew as a person and am much stronger.I do not take things for
granted or assume anything is coming to me. I always strive and try to
make the best of my situations and to grow, learn from each one.
Most recently I have been working on creating some inventions. I
plan to create designs for the disabled. I want to help improve their lives. I
hope to keep creating in different avenues. All the negatives so far have
been a blessing in disguise. I decided to be in the moment and enjoy today.
Make the best of every situation. Wherever I go I try to make a holiday and
celebration.
This book is a tribute to my life and experiences so far. I hope to be able to
publish more soon. Thank you.

Esther Nash:
New York based fashion designer, model, socialite & fashion expert, is the epitome of a chick on a quest. The fashion world's former prodigy is all grown up. At the age of 18, Esther owned and operated her first retail store. At the age of 19, opened a second store, and at the age of 20, opened a third store. By the age of 21, Esther was having her own runway shows, thereby reaching the rank of a young professional designer. Ms. Nash's fashions have been featured on the long running hit HBO series Sex and the City, and her last runway show (she has had over 2 dozen) was notably attended by Vogue's Editor in Chief Anna Wintour...
